Note

Isabella Field: was one of the many children of William Field, ship yard worker in Sunderland, and his wife Elizabeth.

After the death of her husband William Atkins Dryden (1866) in 1897 she took in William Cochrane as a boarder. She had an illegitimate child with him, married him in 1904 but a 1911 census shows William Cochrane as separated though married. He started off as a builder but by 1911 was a pedlar.

The child, William Cochrane Field, may have emigrated to the USA and joined the National Guard, though the 1911 census for Isabella shows William taking his father's surname.

1911 Census: Isabella Field with son William Cochrane: taking two rooms at 21 Sans Street which is the same building as her daughter Margaret and son-in-law William. She is a charwoman at a boarding school. The record says she is married but living apart, and that she has two children, one of whom is still living. I'm assuming that the number of children refers to her second marriage and doesn't count the two daughters from her first.
